Watertown: The Children’s Home of Jefferson County (CHJC) recently received a grant from the Community Spirit Youth Giving Challenge, supported by the Northern New York Community Foundation and Stage Notes, Inc. The grants were awarded based on essays written by local middle school students in Jefferson and Lewis Counties who participated in the Challenge. Students were asked to define what “community” means to them, and then identify an organization they believe supports their definition.
In her winning essay entry, Jenna Freeman, an eighth grader at Lowville Academy and Central School, selected the Children’s Home’s Fostering Futures Foster Care Program. Selected as one of two winners from more than 50 entries, Jenna wrote about the importance of providing quality Foster Care including “I feel like this organization (CHJC) helps my community because it helps children find a loving home.”
