Watertown: The Children’s Home of Jefferson County (CHJC) is hosting two Job Fairs to fill positions for its exciting, new Raise the Age Residential Treatment Program (RTA). More than 30 immediate openings are available for qualified individuals of all experience levels – from high school graduates to professionals with advanced degrees. The Job Fairs will be held in the CHJC Campus Dining Hall, 1704 State Street, Watertown, on Thursday, November 15, 2018 from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm; and Monday, November 19, 2018 from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.
All positions offer competitive salaries, and an excellent and complete benefits package. Successful candidates will receive thorough and ongoing training. Several shifts are available including day, evening and overnight. Interested candidates are encouraged to bring their resumes to one of the CHJC Job Fairs, where they will be able to learn more about the RTA Program, complete an application, and be interviewed on-site by a CHJC Human Resources professional.
CHJC’s RTA Program was developed in response to New York State’s Raise the Age legislation, “raising the age” of juvenile offender status for 16 and 17 year-olds. Studies have shown incarcerating young people is not effective in reducing recidivism. In fact, compared with youth their age processed as juveniles, youth committing minor crimes entering the adult criminal prison system, are more likely to be assaulted and to commit suicide. They are also far more likely to be re-arrested and re-incarcerated. RTA will help break this cycle.
The RTA Program is part of a continuum of CHJC-based, holistic care, designed to best meet the individual needs of each youth served. All RTA staff will serve as part of a team, closely working with the youth, and building on their strengths. Staff will also work with the youth’s families to help identify underlying issues which resulted in the youth’s placement. In addition, RTA staff will help youth learn new skills, thereby reducing their risk of re-offense, and helping them become productive members of their community.
